We had a fantastic time at the WeAreDevelopers Conference 2024, one of Europe’s premier tech events for developers. We’re grateful to be a community partner and for the three free tickets provided for our members!
Arriving in Berlin a day early allowed us to explore the city before diving into the two-day conference. The event featured keynote speeches from tech leaders, engaging fireside chats, and two large halls with booths from innovative companies. The food trucks were pricey but delicious. Overall, it was a great experience.

Pep Talk from the White House – David Simas
David Simas is the Managing Director of Research at Emerson Collective and former CEO of Obama Care. He leads initiatives that leverage research to advance social justice and equity in areas like democracy, immigration, education, and climate change.
Meeting him at WeAreDevelopers was inspiring. His insights on integrating research with impactful strategies to address complex societal issues were enlightening and demonstrated his deep commitment to making a positive difference.
His passion was something I witnessed firsthand when i saw him roam the booths with open eyes and a huge smile on his face.

Meeting John Romero, the DOOM Guy
John Romero is a legendary video game designer and programmer, who revolutionized FPS games in the 1990s – He co-founded id Software, a studio which developed video game classics like Doom and Quake.
Needless to say, I was pretty hyped to meet him in person during the conference: He offered to play Doom II in a 1v1 match with randomly selected conference-attendees, which was very entertaining to watch. Although I didn’t participate in a match, I was really happy to get the chance to have a short chat with him!
Of course I also bought a souvenir, a signed copy of his autobiography “Doom Guy: Life in First Person”.
