Scrap DIY NAS

The idea is to build a hot-swap-able NAS using spare parts i have lying around, source what i lack from friends and 3d print the rest

The budget would idealy be 0€, but 30€ is a more realistic approach, because some parts like the N4 backplate aren’t that easy to find cheaper (or free).

Software (details will follow when the hardware side is taken care of):

  • TrueNas
  • Scrutiny
    • Harddisk Monitoring because of the old disks
  • Side2side
    • wireguard
    • alternativly tailscale (if I’m lazy)
  • Jellyfin
    • Media Server (because subscription services suck)
  • etc

Hardware:

What i have:

  • HP Probook 450 G3 (i5 6th gen, 8GB RAM)
  • 4x 1TB HDDs (old, but working)
  • 1x 128GB m.2 sata SSD for OS
  • 3d Printer (Bambulab P2S)

What I am printing:

  • Moonyx’s “HDD Cage” for 4 bays
  • The Chassie
    • iImight have to construct it to fit my meassurements.
    • This will be the last part so i am waiting for everything else to be ready.

What I am trying to source (cheaper) at the moment:

I am currently looking for cheaper alternatives. The total cost of these is about 50€ (via the links provided)
